I’ll try to leave the first half of this review spoiler free for a change, just to see if I can. Here goes.

A very good movie, the special effects are awesome, but not exactly the primary selling point (one of the selling points, but not the main one). In this movie there are not one new villians but 2, and a return of an old one (who then vanishes, sorta returns then (in a loose sense of the word) vanishes again). As you may know, the sandman shows up (the guy who cost all that money for the special effects guys, you know the one made of sand?) as does an enemy named Venom (they don’t say his name in the movie, but Wikipedia knows all), and I will say that Venom helps turn spider-man emo (albeit temporarily) complete with the hair style, the black cloths and at a few points he sits all slouched over and depressed looking, including doing so on top of a church in the rain. I practically collapsed laughing when we first see him with the hairstyle. Heehee “Poor Spiderman, nobody understands him.”

The romantic plot is just a bit predictable, boy dates girl, boys alter ego steals her spotlight, girl get threatened, girl breaks up (spoilers, more spoilers, etc.)

Overall, 4.5 stars

Now for the spoiler section:

When MJ is in the taxi, one thing that popped into my head while the cab was coming loose was ‘why dosen’t she just CLIMB OUT?’ and when the cab is hanging over her head, she just sits the instead of trying to move out of the way. *facepalm* Then again she is the classic damsel in distress, eh. You could tell as soon as Jameson asked for that picture, that Eddie Brock was going to Photoshop it, especially since spidey would never do stuff like that, not even as Venom. I’d also like to wonder why the scientists were performing subatomic particle experiments in a wide open pit? Anything could fall in and contaminate the experiment! Oddly, I don’t have an issue with his body turning to sand. I figure it’s just wacky science, and accept it.

Also: YES! EMO SPIDERMAN! Spidey’s just sad cause nobody understands him! Hee hee hee… Remember how I said the special effects were a selling point to see the movie? Emo Spiderman is another one.

Good Times.
