Apologies for not posting reviews for nearly a month, but it was winter and most TV channels didn’t have any new shows coming out. Now however scifi channel has several shows re-airing from the begining, which is perfect for someone like me because i hate starting a series partway through.
First up: Jake 2.0. The permise is that a guy called Jake Foley (played by Christopher Gorham) was a perfectly ordinary tech support nerd working at the NSA, having dreams of actually going on missions, but never making the cut. Enter the lab accident and presto! Jake now has a bunch of tiny computers swimming around inside him called nanites. Sort of an accidental 6 million dollar man. The people in charge of the nanite project recrute Jake to work as a secret agent, with mixed results.
As a result of the nanites, Jake recives the superhuman abilities of super strength, super speed, super vision (including night vision), and super hearing. All these abilities would be theoretically possible, at the level of technology the nanites are supposedly at on the show. His other ability, technopathy (mentally controlling electronics devices), seems very advanced, as it would require a “sensor array” of sorts, as well as the ability to “shoot” electrons with absolute precision, or create a field in which conductivity is increased. Either of these explanations would require Jake to have significantly more control over the nanites than shown.
In the first three episodes, The Tech, Training Day, and Caiter Waiter, Jake is shown having difficulty learning to control his powers, and is being tutored in episodes 2 and 3 by Dr. Diane Hughes (played by Keegan Connor Tracy)1, the second in command of the nanite project (the head of the nanite project was killed in a shootout that caused the lab accident which infected Jake with the nanites in the first place). It is moderatly obvious to an observer that Dr. Hughes is attracted to Jake, who is, of course, oblivious. Jake is busy focusing on his old college crush, Sarah Heywood (played by Marina Black), whom he has just gotten re-aquainted with by helping fix her computer. To me, it seems like Sarah meerly wants to become good friends with Jake, as they were in college, however Jake appeares to think she is shooting for a realationship. From what I’ve seen in the first three episodes, I’d say it’s a pretty good chance that Dr. Hughes and Jake are going to get together by the end of the series.
That’s all for the moment, I’ll have a few things to say regarding Star Trek Enterprise, and Stargate SG-1 shortly after I finish cleaning out my DVR.
